Looking for Home/Foster for Bull Mastiff
BARC recently received a English and Bull Mastiff. The English Mastiff rescue group was able to come and pick one. But the Bull Mastiff is still in desperate need of someone to help him. We have been unable to find a rescue to take him and are now currently in contact with Best Friends in Utah to see if they would be willing to take him in. He is approximately 5 -6 years old. His teeth are severely worn down to the gums, he appears to have vision and hearing problems and is covered in cuts and scars. He does seem to have aggression towards other dogs if they are not in a seperate pen than him. But fine around people, but not entirely trusting of them either. If you know of anyone willing to take this boy in and give him some love and medical attention, please contact us or pass this information along to them to see if they can take him. "Hope" Our Postergirl has gotten Adopted!
I have just found out that Hope, a red female pitbull has finally been adopted by a woman in San Antonio. Hope is really the dog that started it all. Lance and Karen encountered her on their first trip to BARC. She was actually starving to death in her kennel. They demanded she be put in her own cage and be fed seperately so that she could eat. She quickly put on some weight, though still under weight. She has spent the last couple of weekends at Highland Village and now has finally found a home! Our goal from day 1 was to find her a home. And now we continue with the thousands of dogs and cats who deserve to share the same story.

Pitbull needs a home! Melissa contacted me looking for someone who could either foster or even adopt this dog. She does appear to be aggressive towards other dogs, so would be best at a home with no other dogs or cats. Also someone who can take a leadership role with the dog. She is trying to find her a home so that she does not have to be euthanized. If you could foster or are interested in adopting this dog. Please contact me at HoustonAPI@gmail.com

News - Houston Animal Partnership Initiative Summary: Rep. Senfronia Thompson - In response to the alarming number of unlicensed and unregulated large-scale commercial dog breeding facilities operating in Texas, I have introduced House Bill 3180 which will require these operations, commonly known as puppy mills, to meet minimum standards of care and housing for their animals.
Rep. Senfronia Thompson - A believer that even the "little dogs" deserve a shot in their government.
Puppy mills are commercial dog breeding facilities that confine adult dogs in small, cramped cages and keep them in perpetual cycles of breeding. A female dog will often spend her entire life confined in a cage, producing puppies every heat cycle. When she can no longer reproduce, she is usually destroyed or abandoned.

Puppy mills are flooding the pet market with inbred, unhealthy puppies being sold to unsuspecting buyers in pet stores and through Internet ads. Many of these puppies die soon after being purchased or require the owner to spend thousands of dollars in veterinary care to try to save them.

Puppy mill operators often use misleading ads claiming to be small breeders providing humane conditions and proper care when, in fact, they are confining hundreds of dogs in cruel, filthy conditions without veterinary care and proper nutrition.
Click on the link below to see Rep. Thompson's complete posting of the news release on her Web site.
